The Layton Vision Foundation is an eye research charity dedicated to eradicating curable and incurable blindness in Australia, Oceania and South East Asia.

Professor Christopher Layton (Dr Chris) established the Layton Vision Foundation in 2016 with a mission in mind: One cure, one vision, for everyone. Working internationally and being immersed in the eye health industry from both a clinical and research position, Dr Chris understands the global vision crisis and how it affects every day lives.

Armed with this knowledge and experience, Dr Chris felt it imperative to invest in high-level eye research in Queensland. He recognised how critical this kind of research was for improving clinical standards and specialised eye technologies, not just in Australia, but in developing countries and international aid.

Since 2016, the Layton Vision Foundation has promoted and assisted in the eradication of blindness through the support of the LVF Ophthalmology Research Centre through vision research and clinical services. The LVF Research Centre provides the next generation of Australia’s research scientists the skills in advanced gene and cellular based therapies needed to develop cures for blinding diseases. Our Brisbane vision research is focused on single treatment cures suitable for low-resource settings.

Dr Chris recognised the increase in non-communicable diseases and ageing populations combined with lifestyle, technological and communication changes present a new burden on eye health. There are 1.1billion people around the world living with the consequences of sight loss because they do not have eye care services. (International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness).

The Layton Vision Foundation is bringing hope to people affected by vision loss and blindness. Support for our medical and clinical research can create a brighter future for the community and generations to come. Clinical research is essential to help understand vision loss, find better treatments and prevent eye disease.
